Jess's Review ~ Just One Year by Penelope Ward

Just One Year My rating: 4 of 5 stars

description

This is a college, friends-to-lovers romance. It was funny, filled with sexual tension and pulled at the heartstrings.

I should start by saying this is about as far away from my typical read as possible, where I like dark and dirty, this was sunshine and had a soul. But the reason I keep coming back for more, every time Ms. Ward puts out a new book is I can't get enough from her. This story was imaginative but characters feel real. The places are real (I love Mike's Pastry) and the circumstance not far fetched.

The beginning had me in stitches because seriously what better way for our characters to meet. Teagan is junior in college, kind of a loner, insanely smart and hides behind her insecurities. Caleb is this full-of-life British student, who has never experience something as simple as a s'more. He is awed by the experience he has been able to have by coming to the US but things are not pretty back at home.

These two developing an easy friendship that at times made me giggle out loud. Knowing that Caleb is going home after his year is the elephant in the room and this is them dealing with it. I read this book in one sitting. The flow was good and the story was just easy to get into. I wanted to see where the characters took us and I began invested in their journeys because that is what they each went on; a personal journey.

This book was super enjoyable and made my heart smile. And another great addition to Ms. Ward's collection.
