I loved it! A new favorite by one of my favorites.
Dark with just the right amount of twists and turns. Santiago and Briseis had serious chemistry, even if their initial encounters are somewhat based on revenge. Gritty storyline, messy pasts, death, and destruction, all of my favorite things. Santiago is one of the Dark Four but has a past that is quite complicated and a far cry of what it should have been. He should have been the kid who grew up with a silver spoon, not the kid who was damaged beyond repair. Santiago has been playing the long game that might finally be coming to an end. Then again, maybe not. He is ruthless and cold. He is broken and has broken others. He doesn't know how to let others in and then there is Briseis. Briseis' story is similarly tragic but not quite to the same degree.
Briseis for all the hatred she should have she still tries to find the redeeming qualities in those who made her life miserable. She sacrifices herself, even when she shouldn't, for someone who has treated her like garbage. While you would think that she aims to be a punching bag, she is anything but. She is smart and strong-willed. Her love and trust is this bright spot in an otherwise dreary existence. She is also quite witty and maybe the only person who can handle Santiago.
There was a lot going on in this book, there are a lot of players and dark corners. There is a mix of past and present and even a glimpse of some unexpected characters. This is also the opening book into a new series, which I am thoroughly excited about. Some past characters made appearances and connections are made within this serial killer world, that I love, and cannot get enough of. There is something about this author and these characters that really just draws me in. She has created this whole world and with each story, I feel like I am a part of it. I have strong feelings for all of those involved and they stay with me long after the book is over. Even now, years later, I still feel the previous stories in my soul.

It was love at the first chapter! Or maybe it was the first page? Either way, I loved and devoured this book. I am at a slight disadvantage because for all of JEA books I have read, I have not read the Jack & Jill series, which I will be rectifying in short order. But even though I have not read them, I was able to enjoy and love this book just the same.
This was a bit darker than a lot of what I have read from this author and my black soul loved it. Livy is this free-spirit who for all of her father's efforts has still been able to have relationships with the opposite sex. She loves to surf, doesn't need to study, and has a wild imagination. She is witty and fun and knows what she wants out of life. So when, don't-talk-to-me, Slade enters into her class and sits at her tree, Livy sees this as a challenge she excepts. The getting Slade to more than a grunt or threaten to call the police is a feat in and of itself but Livy just can't give up on a good challenge and it made this book wildly entertaining.
Slade is a man of few words, lives in the haunted firehouse, doesn't have any friends but for his dog, and doesn't care what people think of him. He has zero interest in Livy, well at least at first, but persistence and a few threats might just change his mind.
This story certainly took a turn, I didn't see coming, which added to the excitement of the story. Slade and his unwavering patience, Livy and her inability to accept anything other than what she thinks is the truth, mix in a loyal dog, overbearing dad, and some messed up history and this became one of my favorite reads this year. There were times I laughed, swooned, held my breath, contemplated information, talked out loud with the characters, and perhaps wanted to cry. Yup, I loved it.

The perfect prequel to get you excited for what is to come. It's just enough to get a good idea about who are characters are going to be and a little insight about where they came from.
Tess is bold, yet need a bit of encouragement and isn't 100% convinced she has made the right decision. Scott on the other hand is very sure of himself, his abilities, and his place in the world. His family runs the world, and Tess is just Tess. She is trying to find her place, but still just Tess. While there first meeting is certainly one for the memory books, it's the after that really has you guessing about where the story is going to go. Together they sizzle and I am a total sucker for a dirty mouth. And you are left hanging a bit, so I am ready for some more.

I’m afraid to admit it...this is my first Montgomery Ink book. My first Carrie Ann Ryan novel, too. I had heard about the series and when I come across this one and saw that it was a fake fiancé book, I knew I had to read it!
This was a quick, sexy read. I loved Aaron. He was sweet, protective, selfless...pretty perfect. I struggled a bit more with Madison. I found her endearing but what she allowed herself to be put through made it difficult to fully invest in her. I did enjoy the relationship between these two and the way it grew, and caused the characters to grow as well, pulled me into the story.
I’m pretty late to the game and the Montgomery Ink world is already pretty in depth and well established. While I’d love to know more about all the couples already together, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story, but I am positive that having read the others would have further added to my reading pleasure. I’ll have to remedy that and check out some of the other stories, I’m eager to spend more time with this crew.
