Desperation had a flavor.

It was all Emma could taste as her life in Washington DC started to crumble before her.

In a city filled with prestige and American dreams also lay political fallacy and corruption—corruption she would soon find herself indulging in.

Emma would have done anything to save herself from the downfall, gone to any length, sacrificed her soul if needed.

Review

This was a wild ride.

Told in dual points of view this is a riveting read. Like others have said you really need to go in blind. You should not have opinions of the characters or have any expectations of where this story will go. I can tell you there were things that I did not see coming.

"...image is everything, even if it's covered in lies."

This story was really interesting. The lengths in which one will go when they are desperate. The lies and deceit that someone is capable of were a bit amazing. This was a twisted story and I didn't want to look away. There were some parts that I had guessed and some that had me rereading the page. I did feel a tinge of a let down because there were things I wanted to be resolved that were not. I know it was intentional but I still wanted a resolution.

If you are looking for something that pushed the boundaries, keeps you guessing, shocks you, then this is it. This is not your typical romance and I almost wouldn't even categorize it as such, because the story is about the things one does when they have no other options, or at least they don't think they have any other option. There were some romantic elements but at least for me that fell secondary to the paths that our characters were entangled on.  Their messed up journey was something to behold and what made it more interesting for me, is that I did not like the characters. I didn't feel bad for the disasters they caused themselves and I found that added this whole new dimension to the book. I have never experienced this before so I am still trying to digest.

This is one that will stick with me for a variety of reasons, most of which I can't talk about, so just read it to find out.
