Jess's Review ~ Bully King by J.A. Huss

Bully King (Kings of High Court College, #1) My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Welcome to High Court, where the wealthy rule the kingdom, and only the best of them will rise to the top.

This is the first book in a new series by JA Huss. We meet the players in this book but the focus is on Cooper and Cadee. Cooper is the Bully King and has been ordered by his father to run this year's summer rush. Cadee is on her way of High Court until she is made an offer she can't refuse.

Cooper's goal in life is to make Cadee miserable. While she is working in the summer rush, she is put through the paces. Time and time again she is tested but each time her skin grows thicker and Cooper seems to get more and more invested. I enjoyed Cadee's smart mouth and the way she approached this new reality. Of all the characters though, Cooper seems to have grown up the most. These two characters are not strangers to one another and the past they share is complicated. Along with complications, add secrets and players trying to out-play one another and you have a summer filled with some craziness.

There were aspects of the overall story I had wanted to be explored a little further. The Kings of the Court are ruthless and the pledges were less than kind. And they made this story quite engaging. We are left with room for more books and there were things that seemed unfinished and I am assuming they get sorted out in later books. For not being something I would typically read, as this is a troupe that never really did it for me, I did enjoy this one.
