Jess's Review ~ Code of Silence by Shantel Tessier

Code of Silence My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

Holy snikes this was a ride!

Haven has been in love with Luca for what seems like forever. Luca has loved Haven for just about as long. The problem is the mafia and the lies and the secrets and the trail of dead bodies (because of the mafia). Luca took off two years ago, leaving a Haven a mess and broken-hearted. Well, now he is back and basically bombards Haven's life in a way only the heir to the mafia kingdom can, with money and contracts.

There are a number of side characters in this book that play big roles and the author sets up their stories quite nicely. I am more than ready for the Kings and Mr. Nite. Even though this was filled with very large personalities they all worked well together and gives you a good taste of what this world will like. Luca is clearly in charge and he has a score to settle. The plays the cold and deadly part very well. At points, I almost wondered if I would ever soften towards him.

Haven has a lot going on. She makes some grave mistakes and is beyond stubborn. She is not taking her new situation well and makes sure that everyone knows how unhappy she is. She does have a few too many tears, but I guess when your life is flipped on its axis more than one time in a matter of days tears are acceptable. She is though, really the innocent one in this whole messed up situation.

This was a darker mafia story and by darker, I mean suspenseful, bloody with some good twists. I really enjoyed the characters we met. And once Luca won me over I couldn't get enough of him. He is a beast and through and through a mafia king.
