Jess's Review ~ King of Shadows by Amelia Wilde

King of Shadows (King of Shadows, #1) My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

This was an interesting take on Hades and Persephone.

Persephone has been sheltered her whole life by her mother but the reasons for why are unclear. Persephone just wants to be free. She doesn't understand the need to keep her isolated and finally, she has a plan. She dreams of the library where she can roam and just be. But her plans don't work at all like she dreamed them to be.

Hades is the big bad monster in the mountains. Or so the story goes. He accidentally (or not) finds Persephone and he must have her. Even though some of the story is told in his POV I still feel like I was in the dark about him. There was a lot of mystery behind who he really is and what his role really plays.

This was a mysterious tale and definitely a twist on the story. It had this fantastical edge to it too which added something interesting to the story. The tension between Hades and Persephone was potent but neither really knows what to do with what they are feeling, for completely different reasons.

This book ends at not the end and it will be interesting to see where the story takes us.
