Jess's Review ~ The Life You Stole by Jewel E. Ann

The Life You Stole (Life, #2) My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

This is the follow-up to The Life that Mattered. I needed this book, I needed to know what was happening, I needed to know who was hiding what. So once I had it in my hands I read, then put it down, then read some more, and so it went for a couple of days. Now I have been struggling to put my review into words. Did I love this duet? Yes. But my feelings are a bit more complicated than a simple, I loved it.

This book put to light the things that people were hiding from each other. We had four friends who live completely separate lives and have completely separate struggles. Ronin with a gift he can't explain. Evelyn who is trying to keep her family together. Lila who is trying to be the First Wife and struggling. Graham trying to get what he wants by any means necessary. And together they are a mess of lost friendship and love.

I can't really talk about their journeys because that is part of the experience. You should really go into this blind and without any expectations. This author has a way of weaving a wholly unique story with unexpected endings and twists that I never anticipated. I do have to say there came a point in this book where I was completely frustrated at everyone. I hated where everyone was in their part of the story and struggled to keep going. I almost said forget it because I couldn't figure how things were going to get fixed but I pushed through. For the last 30% I didn't stop reading. I stayed up WAY past my bedtime on that final day because I had this sense of urgency to find out what was coming. And I am so glad I kept going. The mix of feelings and strong emotions still make this one of the harder reviews to write. I feel like I am just blabbing on about nothing in particular. Bottom line, if you like books that mess with you, make you question your own morals and keep your heart pounding, then this is for you.
