Jess's Review ~ Release by Aly Martinez

Release My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the type of story you get wrapped up and swept away.

We start in the present at the almost 13 years after Ramsey goes to prison. Thea has waited for this moment for all of those minutes only to be hit with the icy cold blast that is now Ramsey Stewart. Then we get to learn about where they came from. A ten-year-old girl and eleven-year-old boy, both broken in their own ways. Watching these two grow up and grow into a friendship that defies the odds was entertaining, heartbreaking and I loved it with my whole being.

Where they are today is a tad bit more heartwrenching. Thea still loves him with her whole being and Ramsey is pushing her away at every opportunity. Unexpectedly humorous, this book carries you through their current and past troubles seamlessly. One of the other things that I loved about this book was the sneak attacks. Those moments that you need to reread the words because it hits you out of nowhere.

While I am not typically one who gravitates toward the angsty type of books, I am one who gravitates towards this author. This one certainly pulls at the heartstrings, leaves you breathless and hopeful, all in the same chapter. Thea and Ramsey have this special kind of chemistry, the kind that is palpable and you feel whether they are 10 and getting their leg broken or 28 and are like deer repellant.
