Diane's Review ~ Say It Ain't So by Lani Lynn Vale

Say It Ain't So (SWAT Generation 2.0, #9)Say It Ain't So by Lani Lynn Vale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ah, the SWAT kids are back…

And as always, I couldn’t wait to dive in! I say that each time out, I know, I need to find new material (or at least different words), but it’s true nevertheless. And, once again, there were new twists in the character’s lives that brought a unique romantic path to new and much-loved characters…

Did I say unique? From Hastings’ introduction to Sammy, to everything that followed, I loved how a health issue was dealt with. I have no experience in this area (none at all!) so my perspective is strictly from a reader’s enjoyment of a story, but the treatment felt respectful even as it spawned much humour. Nothing was sacred or taboo, and if insta-lust happened super quickly, the love it spawned was heartfelt and natural.

Was I keen on a story trope used before by this author, used again here? Honestly, not so much, but… That didn’t mean it wasn’t a well-written read and the characters and their drama soon had me asking ‘what trope’?

There are always twists in this author’s stories. One minute I’m laughing and the next I’m reeling in shock. This one had a particularly devastating curveball I never saw coming. Be prepared for the unexpected as Sam and Hastings fought hard for their well-deserved HEA…
