Jess's Review ~ Grave by Shantel Tessier

Grave (Dark Kings, #2)Grave by Shantel Tessier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was not expecting all these emotions from this one. I have met Grave already, I expected him to be a bit damaged but shallow. He clearly had some "issues" and I was expecting him to work those out, but I was not ready for the heart-to-hearts, the struggles, and for me to spend 90% of this book just really rooting for him.

And April, what an unexpected breath of fresh air. I loved her. I liked that she had crazy hair, that she ran a flower shop, that she was just so down-to-earth that you want to be her friend. While her brother clearly has some unresolved problems and causes her more trouble than he is worth, she just keeps moving forward. She is loyal and kind but has no problem defending herself.

The relationship between Grave and April is actually kind of "cute." I hate that word and what they do together is anything but cute, but a lot about them is just that, cute. Grave is dark and has this completely damaged personality but there is something about April that brings out this other side of him. She makes him; want to be present, want to be there, want to be something more than he has been. But some things are not that easy in the world that the Kings live in. The journey was at times heartbreaking as our character self-destructs but it was also wickedly entertaining and oh, so, sexy.

Bring on the other Kings! I am ready.
